Tehran, Qodsna –The 36th anniversary of the passing of Imam Khomeini, the founder of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution, was commemorated on Wednesday.  Imam Khomeini predicted the collapse of Zionist regime and the Palestinian people’s victory in retaking their homeland. He designated the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day in order to open a new phase of solidarity with Palestinians in the world.

Canadian writer Eric Walberg talked with Qods News Agency (qodsna.com) in an exclusive interview about the impact of Imam Khomeni’s ideology and Zionist regime’s crimes and genocide against Palestinians.

Qodsna: On the 36th anniversary of the demise of Imam Khomeini, what was the impact of his ideology regarding all-out support for oppressed nations throughout the world?

Walberg: Imam Khomeini led the revolution that overthrew the puppet Shah put in place by US imperialism. This was the first successful Islamic revolution, marking the renewal of Islam in the world as the principle force for peace at a time when the communist revolution, the secular force against imperialism, was fading.

If Iran's secular revolutionaries had succeeded, Iran would have slipped back into the imperialist fold, joining all the communist countries after 1991. Instead, Iran became the lifeline for the Palestinians in their fight against the Zionists, who carry on the imperialist tradition by killing and dispossessing the native Palestinians. Iran stands as a beacon of selflessness in a cynical, corrupt world.

Qodsna: What is the impact of Imam Khomeini’s Islamic Revolution of Iran on the Palestinian issue?

Walberg: The Sunni world is under imperialist yoke, leaving Iran as the main support for the Palestinians. That is why it is victimized by the imperialists and resented by the craven Arab leaders. To some extent this is changing. Saudi support for Iran is tentative but Saudi leaders know they must support the Palestinians at this fatal moment, which puts them onside with Iran.

Qodsna: How do you describe the genocidal onslaught and war crimes in Gaza?

Walberg: The genocide in Gaza is unspeakable. The only 'up' side is the impending collapse of Israel, buried in its war crimes.

Qodsna: The Zionist regime is suffering both internal and international crisis. How do you see the future of Zionist regime?

Walberg: The Zionist regime will not disappear as quickly as the world hopes. World Jewry is rich and ruthless, keeping the powers-that-be in its thrall through intimidation, blackmail, assassination, whatever it takes to keep their evil apaartheid society in tact. We must mobilize the world to boycott, starve the evil, pressure our governments to recognize Palestine and push US-Israel to the negotiating table.
